What Does Botox Treat?
Fine lines and wrinkles naturally form as a result of making facial expressions over time, such as frowning, laughing, squinting, or smiling. Botox® is an FDA-approved, noninvasive cosmetic injection used to smooth fine lines and wrinkles around the face and neck, as well as to control excessive sweating. This popular wrinkle relaxer works by temporarily blocking the nerves that provide certain muscle movement. Once injected into the treatment area, it works to reduce the appearance of wrinkles by relaxing the muscles, giving you a smoother, younger-looking, and well-rested complexion. Botox is temporary and can last up to 4 months (results vary depending on each patient). Fine lines and wrinkles will gradually return, indicating it’s time for another treatment. Botox is also commonly utilized as a preventative anti-aging solution when used during the early stages of wrinkle development.
How Much Botox Do I Need?
Botox injections are administered in “units.” The number of units needed to achieve desired results will vary by individual. This is dependent on multiple factors, such as your individual aesthetic goals, muscle strength, metabolism, and the size and number of areas to be treated. During your consultation, we will discuss all the details and provide you with a recommended treatment amount.
What Should I Expect From My Botox Treatment?
During your initial appointment (which is approximately 30 minutes), we will review your medical history to ensure Botox is a safe treatment option for you. After discussing your treatment goals, we use an ultra-fine needle to inject the neurotoxin into the targeted areas. There is no downtime and the procedure is quick with minimal discomfort. You can expect full effects within about 2 weeks. Follow-up appointments (if you choose to maintain your results) are typically only about 15 minutes.
